- Guidelines for Student Wellness and Physical Activities
The PVSD recognizes that healthy eating behaviors and regular physical activity are essential for students to achieve their full academic and life potential, and that we have a responsibility to provide a healthy learning environment by supporting wellness, good nutrition, and regular physical activity. Wellness policies promote life-long wellness behaviors, and link healthy nutrition and exercise to students' overall physical well-being.
Nutrition education shall be provided as part of the health education program and as appropriate this shall be integrated into other academic subjects in the regular educational program.
All students shall be provided opportunities to be physically active on a regular basis. Opportunities for moderate to vigorous physical activity shall be provided through physical education and recess and may also be provided through school athletic programs, extracurricular program, before and after school programs, programs encouraging students to walk or bicycle to and from school, in-class physical activity breaks, and other structured or unstructured activities.
PVSD Wellness Policy:
Our District has developed a comprehensive Wellness Policy that is focused on improving the health of our students. The District believes that all students should be educated in a learning environment that is safe, drug-free, and conducive to learning. The District believes also that schools play a critical role in promoting health and safe behaviors to help students establish lifelong, healthy behaviors. Improving student health and safety increases students' capacity to learn, reduces absenteeism, and improves physical fitness and mental alertness.
